Girl, I don’t know why, but Becky with the good hair is suddenly back on our timelines. Is she out here haunting Beyoncé again with all the drama surrounding Jay-Z? Have people finally figured out who she really was, why she caused such a mess, and why Solange had to step in and handle business in that elevator?
Or—and hear me out—what if Becky with the good hair wasn’t even a woman?
So, about 10 years ago, when I was filming a documentary with the twins, the producer pulled me aside and said, “I’ve got a secret. I know exactly why Solange went off on Jay-Z in that elevator.”
Naturally, I was like, “Oh? Well, don’t hold back—spill the tea!”
And then he hit me with this: “So, I’ve been told Beyoncé and Jay-Z have an agreement. He can mess around, but only once. Twice? That’s a problem. And apparently, he went back for seconds. But the real gag? It’s WHO he went back for.”
At this point, I’m on the edge of my seat. And then he drops it.
“Drum roll, please… Will Smith.”
Listen. If this is true, the Carters must be sweating.
Of course, we all remember when TMZ released that now-iconic footage of Solange swinging on Jay-Z in the elevator. Nobody ever confirmed what sparked the fight, but fans have always suspected it had something to do with Jay’s cheating.
Jay-Z himself admitted to stepping out, and Beyoncé didn’t hold back either—she immortalized the drama in Lemonade. On the song Sorry, she called out Becky with the good hair directly:
“He only want me when I’m not there.
He better call Becky with the good hair.”
And let’s be real—Beyoncé was ruthless toward Jay in that song, and she didn’t let Becky slide either. It was clear that Becky wasn’t just some random side chick. Whatever happened, it was personal.
But here’s the thing—what if Becky was never a real person?
Diana Gordon, one of the songwriters behind Sorry, has actually spoken about this. She told Entertainment Weekly that Becky with the good hair was more of a symbol than an actual person, saying:
“I laughed. Like, this is so silly. How are people getting all of this from one lyric? Accusing people?”
She also mentioned that even Beyoncé was caught off guard by the way the internet ran with it.
But that didn’t stop people from playing detective. The Beyhive quickly zeroed in on Rachel Roy.
Rachel was an intern at Rocawear back in the day and eventually became creative director for the women’s and kids’ lines. She also happened to be married to Dame Dash, Jay-Z’s former business partner.
Then, right around the time Lemonade dropped, Rachel posted a very suspect Instagram caption that had the Beyhive ready for war…
“Good hair, don’t care—but we’ll take good lighting for selfies or self-truths. Always live in the light. #NoDramaQueens.”
Most people know about the infamous elevator incident, but what many don’t realize is that before stepping into that elevator, Solange had a run-in with Rachel Roy. At the time, there were whispers that Beyoncé stepped in, but no one really knew what was said or why the tension was so high. Later, speculation grew that Solange’s fight with Jay-Z had something to do with Rachel, with many believing their “work relationship” may have been more than just business.
Rumors have circulated for years that Jay-Z and Rachel had history, dating back to when she was an intern at Rocawear. And given the timing of everything, Rachel has long been considered the main suspect in the “Becky with the good hair” drama. There were even reports that Solange snapped because Jay-Z defended Rachel when she and Solange clashed.
But after getting dragged by the Beyhive, Rachel shut down the rumors, saying:
“I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted. It was misunderstood as something other than that. There is no validity to it.”
She later added:
“I never usually address tabloid gossip, but let me be clear—these rumors are false. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Beyoncé. Let’s continue enjoying Lemonade.”
Even with her denial, some people weren’t convinced. In fact, a different rumor started gaining traction—the idea that Becky wasn’t a woman at all, but a man. And the name that kept coming up? Will Smith.
About 10 years ago, while filming a documentary, a producer told me:
“I know why Jay-Z got attacked in that elevator by Solange.”
Obviously, I asked for the details, and he told me something wild. According to what he had heard, Beyoncé and Jay-Z had an understanding—he could step out once, but if he went back for more, that was a problem. And apparently, Solange found out he had gone back more than twice.
But the real shocker? The person he allegedly kept going back to was Will Smith.
Now, I’m not saying Jay actually cheated with him, but after that rumor resurfaced, insiders claimed Beyoncé put strict rules in place for their marriage. One source shared:
“Jay is ultimately very grateful that she didn’t give up on him back in the day, so he shows his respect by following her rules. He used to go out with the boys all the time, but that’s off-limits now. And Beyoncé doesn’t like him having one-on-ones with female talent.”
Apparently, the couple also goes to therapy and makes time for date nights to keep their marriage strong.
But with all the recent buzz about Jay-Z, people are starting to ask—who is Becky, really? And should they finally speak their truth? Allegedly, Solange thinks so too. A source close to her even claimed she’s worried that if Beyoncé keeps standing by Jay-Z, there may be no coming back from it.
And with everything going on, that fear might not be so far-fetched.
An insider has claimed that Solange has been vocal about her feelings toward Jay-Z ever since his infidelity with Beyoncé. They revealed that Solange even told Beyoncé she had warned her about Jay-Z a decade ago, but Beyoncé didn’t listen.
The source also mentioned that while Beyoncé is putting on a strong, united front with Jay-Z, she’s facing a lot of pressure from her sister, who constantly reminds her, “I told you so.”
It seems like there’s more going on behind the scenes than they’re letting on.
Although the couple is presenting a united front in public, insiders claim they’re facing intense struggles. It’s said that while Beyoncé publicly supports Jay-Z, behind closed doors, she’s still confronting him about everything, including the infamous “Becky with the good hair.”
Meanwhile, Jay-Z is working to get a lawsuit filed against him by Tony Busby dismissed. He’s also asking for Busby to be held accountable for allegedly starting a smear campaign to damage his reputation.
Jay-Z has firmly denied the claims, and his latest defense focuses on contradictions in Jane Doe’s story. After she filed her lawsuit, Jane Doe’s father told NBC News that he had no memory of making a 10-hour drive to pick up his daughter from a gas station, despite her claiming otherwise. Furthermore, Jane Doe also said she spoke to a celebrity at the 2000 Video Music Awards, but that celebrity wasn’t even in New York at the time. Jay-Z’s legal team points to these inconsistencies as signs that the lawsuit is falling apart.
Jay-Z’s team is also highlighting that Tony Busby admitted he never personally interviewed Jane Doe before attaching his name to the lawsuit, even though he initially claimed that his firm had conducted a thorough investigation. Jay-Z’s attorneys argue that once these inconsistencies surfaced, Busby should’ve withdrawn the case. They are now asking the court to impose sanctions on him for failing to verify the facts.
In defense, Tony Busby insists that he thoroughly checked the details of Jane Doe’s account. He claimed he ran a background check on her and even consulted a retired police detective to verify her story.
Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, criticized this, saying none of the people involved in the verification process had been named or presented as witnesses. He also pointed out that Busby hasn’t explained which parts of Jane Doe’s story were fact-checked.
Busby responded by dismissing Spiro’s comments, calling them “frantic and desperate” and standing firm on the case’s legitimacy. He also emphasized that no one is above the law, calling Jay-Z’s attempt to dismiss the case “frivolous.”
It looks like we’ll have to wait and see how this all unfolds.
As for the “Becky with the good hair” drama, what do you think? Do you believe Beyoncé is still affected by it? And could the whole “Becky” issue be more complicated than just the woman involved—especially if Becky wasn’t even a woman? Could that have been the real problem?
