My guy would never break the law. We’re law-abiding citizens, plain and simple. You know what I mean? This feels like another instance of a Black legend getting crucified. It makes sense why Stevie J has been out here backing Diddy—just like Diddy and Jay-Z, he’s got some pretty major skeletons in his closet, especially when it comes to Eve.
And let’s talk about those tapes you made in the past—the ones that blew up online. I’m not going to get into that, Mighty, not at all. I mean, there’s a young lady involved who’s just trying to do her thing, and she doesn’t need to be pulled into this mess. But if you know, you know—everyone’s aware of the tape with Stevie J that went viral.
Before all this drama, right? So, for him to step up and defend Puff, it raises some eyebrows. I went through a rough patch myself; I was drinking way too much, trying to numb my feelings. And I can’t help but wonder if Jay-Z’s team called Eve to tell her to tidy up that little mess she made in her memoir. I saw the headline and thought, “Okay, I got a call about this.” Then I read the book and was like, “Yeah, that’s definitely not how it was phrased.”
With everything Jay-Z has on his plate right now, Eve should probably be the least of his worries. He really needs to focus his energy elsewhere—like on the possibility of his wife leaving him or the Feds closing in. Anyway, Eve recently released her memoir, Who’s That Girl, where she dives into a lot of experiences from her music career and beyond.
We all know that Stevie J played a significant role in her life, and of course, that brings Diddy into the picture too. Just like many of their other relationships, Eve’s time with Stevie J didn’t end well. They started dating back in the ’90s, and honestly, they were one of the hottest couples in Hollywood at the time. But behind the glitz and glamour, Eve was facing a lot of heartache. She expressed how painful it was to be with someone she thought was the love of her life, yet felt so unsupported. There was this constant feeling of competition that made things tough.
Eve was just 19 when she first met Stevie J, and it seemed like their relationship was off to a great start. She fell head over heels in love and even wrote one of her biggest hits about him, celebrating how deeply she cared for him. She called him her first love. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for her to realize that Stevie wasn’t faithful; he was cheating on her with several women. One of them might have been Mimi Faust, considering she’s been linked to Stevie for at least 15 years now.
There were rumors that Stevie’s love for unprotected sex led to him hurting a lot of women, both emotionally and physically, by passing along STDs. Many people believe this is part of the reason Eve finally decided to leave him, especially after finding out about all the other women he was involved with. During their time together, Eve and Stevie J made a private tape, but unfortunately, it ended up in the wrong hands. Eve was blackmailed by someone she didn’t know for a large sum of money. Over the years, there have been claims that Stevie was the one who leaked the tape, but in her episode of Behind the Music, Eve explained that it was actually a former girlfriend who sold it. Still, many folks are convinced that Stevie had a hand in it.
As for Eve’s perspective, she mentioned, “I was one of the first to do this.” She added, “I didn’t put that tape out myself; no one puts out their own sex tape. All those other people did.” When it came to Stevie, she remarked, “Come on, we all know he was behind that.” Regardless of who leaked it, it was a rough time for Eve, and the relationship was clearly toxic.
Looking back, Eve has expressed a wish that she had spoken up more for herself when she was younger. She said, “I didn’t question things back then, but now I do. If you feel like you’re being lied to, don’t stay quiet. If someone is trying to rush you into something, speak up. Anyone who truly knows your worth will stick around. If they argue with you, call you names, or just bail, then they don’t deserve a place in your life anyway.”
While promoting her memoir, Eve has been opening up about her past, and it’s clear she has some regrets about dating Stevie J. During a recent visit to HOT 97, she talked about her current relationship with British entrepreneur Maximilian Cooper and answered questions about Stevie J and his VH1 show. She shared, “I have not watched it,” and added with a laugh, “What can I say? I was young and dumb.” Her mom even texted her saying, “You dodged a bullet with that one.” It’s true—Eve really did dodge a bullet, but we can’t ignore the fact that Stevie J had a pretty negative impact on her life.
Before she got out of that relationship, Eve went through a rough patch. She lost weight and even her hair, which was honestly the worst we’d ever seen her. “I just wanted to make sure everybody was happy, and I was so emotionally depleted,” she reflected. All of that pressure fell squarely on her shoulders. Rumor has it that a lot of Stevie J’s behavior was influenced by his connection to Diddy. You know what they say about birds of a feather, right? It seems like Stevie J and Diddy are definitely cut from the same cloth.
Interestingly, Stevie J has shown his support for Diddy in a few ways. For example, he posted a video from Diddy’s 50th birthday party back in December 2019 to give everyone a glimpse of what a real Diddy party looks like. But he recently deleted that post—maybe because we’ve all come to learn what a Diddy party is really like!
This is the same person who said he and Diddy are law-abiding citizens and that his friend would never do the things he’s being accused of. Honestly, whatever someone does in their bedroom is their business. I’m not here to judge. All I can say is that I’ve never seen my man do anything shady like what they’re claiming.
Now, Stevie J was actually there when Diddy’s houses were raided, and he shared his experience of what went down. He said the FEDS stormed in, pointed their guns at him, and ordered him outside with his hands up. They even put him in handcuffs while they searched the place. He noticed agents leaving with a single bag that probably had some kind of evidence in it. A lot of people think that Stevie J is defending Diddy so fiercely because he knows he’s likely in those tapes from those wild parties. I mean, he’s out here trying to back Diddy up, but let’s be real—he might just be worried about what could come out. He’s got a history of making tapes himself, after all.
Stevie J also got brought up in Diddy’s lawsuit filed by Lil Rod. Lil Rod claimed that he directed Stevie J and his son, Justin Combs, to recruit women for Diddy’s parties, with Justin specifically told to find younger girls. Lil Rod even included screenshots showing Justin partying with Diddy, and there were girls in those pictures who looked way too young to be there. Plus, the lawsuit mentions that Diddy showed Lil Rod some explicit material that allegedly featured Stevie J with another man. Lil Rod said Diddy shrugged it off as just part of the music industry, telling him, “Look, even Stevie J is doing it.”
On top of that, Lil Rod alleged that Stevie J sent him threatening messages after he tried to talk about not being paid for his work on Diddy’s Love album. So yeah, it’s very possible that Stevie J’s actions toward Eve were heavily influenced by Diddy—and maybe even by his buddy Jay-Z too.
In her book, Eve shares a memory of a phone call she had with Jay-Z, where he tried to manage her expectations for her debut album. She mentions that he was pretty upfront, telling her that female rappers don’t always do well in the industry. On the day her 1999 album dropped, she also recalls a label executive who shockingly suggested she should just give up and focus on getting pregnant instead. Throughout the book, she talks about dealing with a lot of doubters and disrespect from executives along the way.
Since Eve brought up her conversation with Jay-Z, people have speculated that he was one of those who disrespected her. I’m not sure if there’s any truth to the rumors that he threatened her about what she wrote, as some fans have claimed. But when she appeared on The Breakfast Club recently, she made it clear that her book wasn’t meant to be a tale of Black pain, and she’s proud of where she is in her life now. What do you all think? Would Jay-Z really be foolish enough to confront Eve over this?
There’s been talk that Jay-Z has a type, especially when it comes to women who resemble his wife. But at the end of the day, Eve seems genuinely happy with where she is now. Do you think the past 20 years have treated her well, or does she still have some figuring out to do in her life? I’d really love to hear your thoughts!
