Judge Greg Mathis SHARES How He Reconnected with Linda and Won Her Back

It’s so nice to see you out here! Thank you, thank you. Isn’t this moment just beautiful? And nope, this isn’t just for TV—we kiss like this all the time! After 39 years of marriage, TV judge Greg Mattis and his wife, Linda Ree, shocked everyone when they announced they were getting a divorce. But now, it seems like things are taking a turn for the better. The big question, though, is: did Linda decide to give him another chance willingly, or was there some pressure involved? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to figure out.

You might remember that Linda filed for divorce a few months ago, citing irreconcilable differences and naming July 17th as the date they separated. But Greg made it clear that a divorce wasn’t what he wanted. He was doing everything he could to win Linda back while they still shared the same home. He was hoping that she might reconsider and that they could work through their problems. At the time, Linda had not yet moved out of their Los Angeles mansion, so there was still hope for a reconciliation. Judge Greg wasn’t giving up.

When Greg was asked about their situation, he said:

“Would you say you two are in a good place right now, or are you able to maintain a ship?”

“Oh yeah, we’re still in the same house, maintaining a friendship. I’m trying to get my wife back… trying. I have to show her that, though. Hopefully, I can do that while we’re still together before she finalizes everything. I’m changing, hoping she’ll see it. I’m going to get my wife back. How about that?”

It seems like his efforts paid off because just a few days ago, Greg and Linda were spotted together, looking all lovey-dovey. It was their first public appearance as a couple since the divorce news broke in August. When asked how things were going, Greg shared his new mission, saying:

“I think sometimes in life, God has to break you down to lift you up and put you on a new mission. As a kid from the streets who went to jail, I came out and dedicated myself to helping youth from tough neighborhoods, and I’ve been doing that for 25 years. Now, I’m on a mission to help Black love. How about that?”
When asked if Greg was officially out of the doghouse, Linda laughed and hinted that their being together right then should answer the question.

“So, is he out of the doghouse now?” someone asked.

“What do you think?” she replied with a playful grin.

“Huh? Is he out of the doghouse, or what? Well, that’s for her to say, but I think so. But I’m not about to speak for her,” Greg responded, trying to downplay the situation.

“Okay, so how much longer until you two make up?”

“Well, what’s happening right now? We’re standing here together, and that speaks volumes.”

It’s easy to think that things are all good between them now, but if you look at their body language, especially Linda’s facial expression, it’s clear that Greg still has some work to do. While Greg was smiling wide, Linda’s face was less convinced—almost like she was saying, “I need more time.” And honestly, who could blame her? The last time we checked, things were pretty tense between them, with rumors swirling around when Linda filed for divorce.

Reports at the time said one of the key issues in their relationship was Greg’s nonstop work schedule. He was reportedly neglecting Linda, leaving her feeling unimportant. Fans saw glimpses of their personal life on Mattis Family Matters, where Greg acknowledged how much Linda had supported him. He even said:

“The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is certainly my greatest professional achievement, but honestly, it’s my family that really set the foundation for my success after I came out of Detroit. Linda let me work 15 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. Without her support, none of this would have been possible. Our love and support runs deep.”

By the time Linda filed for divorce, Greg was working 70-80 hour weeks, managing charities and running a production company. Those close to Linda said she had given up everything for him, while he was consumed by his career. Even though Greg had promised Linda he would slow down, they could travel and enjoy life together, he wasn’t ready to make any changes.

An insider revealed, “Life’s too short, and if Greg wants to keep running himself ragged, he can. But Linda isn’t willing to sacrifice anymore.” The source added that Greg still had one last shot to save his marriage—if he could slow down and start valuing her the way she deserves, she might consider giving their relationship another chance.
Greg explained that his wife filed for divorce because he had been neglecting her. He said:

“My wife has been busy with the community, taping my show, and having fun with friends. That’s what happens, guys—don’t get too busy, and don’t have too much fun outside of your marriage.”

When asked about the date of separation, which was listed as July 17th, the interviewer wanted to know if this had been building up for a while or if it was something unexpected.

“Ever since we started filming here in LA, I promised myself I would stay home more and make my wife a priority. But as you can see, I didn’t. I’m still on the road doing the same thing, and I was gone for three weeks. That’s what July 17th was all about.”

It seems like Greg did try to slow things down and spend more time with his wife, which might explain why Linda took him back. But people are still unsure if she made the right choice, especially when you consider some of Greg’s past actions. For instance, in 2019, there was an investigation into an incident where Greg allegedly spat on a parking valet. This reportedly happened around 8:00 p.m. outside a club in Detroit, when Greg became upset over whether the valet had his car keys. Witnesses claimed that after a confrontation, Greg spat on the valet.

Then there’s the incident with the LA Department of Water and Power workers. Allegedly, Greg threatened them with a firearm after an argument about his vehicle. According to the employees, things escalated when Greg flashed and pointed a gun at them. Greg, however, gave a different story, saying the workers were blocking his car and threatened him. He claimed he never showed a weapon and that the situation got heated after the employees made threats.

There were also reports about Greg being stingy with money. One story even suggested that he once insisted on paying for dinner using coupons and then used a calculator to make sure he didn’t tip more than the minimum. Apparently, when dining with friends, Greg never paid for their meals. Instead, he would break out his calculator and figure out his exact share to the penny.

It’s also worth noting Greg’s troubled past. He grew up in one of Detroit’s roughest housing projects and was once involved in a street gang called the Arol Flyn. This gang, which had over 400 members, operated on the East Side of Detroit. Greg has a lengthy rap sheet and was arrested multiple times, even spending time in jail when he was 17. He’s admitted that his mother begged him to leave the gang life behind.

Despite his attempts to leave the streets, Greg’s past still seems to haunt him. There have been rumors for years that he was unfaithful to his wife. One of the most memorable moments came when he appeared on Wendy Williams’ show to promote his book. Instead of sticking to the book, Wendy grilled him about rumors of an affair, including an alleged motel encounter with a woman who wasn’t his wife. Some even said Greg got this woman pregnant.

Rather than addressing the rumors, Greg responded by bringing up Wendy’s past struggles with crack cocaine. He suggested that Wendy might still be using, pointing to her nasal issues and constant colds as signs. This exchange left a lot of people questioning Greg’s character and the true nature of his relationship with his wife.
Mattis also thought Wendy might still be battling a crack addiction. He noticed she was in and out of the bathroom during their interview, which raised some red flags for him. When Wendy kept bringing up the rumors, he decided to respond by sharing some things he had heard about her. Besides calling her an addict, he accused Wendy of terminating at least eight pregnancies and hinted that she might be involved with women. This all came up because Wendy was asking about whether he had been cheating on his wife.

Now, let’s shift the focus back to you. You’ve admitted to being addicted—there’s no denying it. And honestly, you’re still showing signs of that addiction. The symptoms are hard to ignore, like the nasal issues and that constant cough you can’t seem to shake. It’s gotten to the point where you can’t even make it to work. And then, you went so far as to blame it on your newborn. How low can you go? Blaming your child for your problems is about as low as it gets.

And let’s not forget the rumors about your bisexuality. I know people are talking about it. Does your husband watch when you’re with other women? I didn’t realize things were that complicated.

Finally, let’s talk about those eight pregnancies. That’s what I’ve heard. Is it true? You’ve definitely kept the rumor alive. Did you mention that in your book? I’m really curious.

As for Greg, the judge’s oldest child, Jade, is 39 and isn’t Linda’s biological daughter. In his memoir, Greg revealed that before he and Linda got married, he had a one-night fling with someone. When that woman turned up pregnant, Greg was terrified that Linda would leave him. But she stayed and married him anyway. Jade and Linda have a close relationship, and Jade calls her “mom,” even though they’re not biologically related. This has always been a talking point for people who believe Greg was unfaithful to his wife.

When it comes to Greg’s response about cheating, here’s what he had to say: “I just want to clear up all these rumors about a baby or me cheating. That’s not what happened. I’ve told you the truth.” When asked if infidelity played a role in his divorce, he explained, “Neglect can definitely cause suspicion. If you’re gone as much as I am, I get why she would have doubts. I travel a lot for work, serve the community, and go to events without my wife. I understand why she might think I was being unfaithful, but I wasn’t.”

It’s worth pointing out that Greg never flat-out denied cheating. He said infidelity wasn’t the reason for the divorce, but acknowledged that neglect could lead to suspicion.

It’s an interesting situation. After 39 years, maybe Linda decided staying with Greg, flaws and all, was the best choice. What do you think? Does it look like she’s truly happy to be back with him, or does she seem like she’s just going along with it? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
