Kevin Hunter, former husband of Wendy Williams, finds himself in dire straits. Homeless and in need of medical attention, he’s burdened with debts and potentially evading legal consequences. Recently, he even appealed to the court to reinstate Wendy’s alimony payments. Remarkably, he persuaded the court to hear his case regarding his dismissal from The Wendy Williams Show. It seems he’s oblivious to when to halt his pursuits.
But that’s not the end of his troubles. He faces another legal ordeal that might lead to incarceration. It’s evident he’s scrambling for funds amidst his downward spiral. Not long ago, Kevin faced a lawsuit from UBS Bank for failing to settle his credit card dues. Allegedly, he breached the agreement by neglecting payments on a Visa Signature card since 2014, amassing over $20,000 in debt plus legal fees. The stakes are high, and Kevin’s efforts to scrounge for money are palpable.
In a bid to raise funds, Kevin listed his house for $1.3 million and obtained loans against two luxury cars through Flex Wealth. Recently, he sold his Parkland, Florida residence, originally bought for $95,600 in 2020, where he resided with his fiancée, or perhaps ex-fiancée, Sharina Hudson. Moreover, he parted ways with the house he acquired post-divorce from Wendy, cementing his status as homeless.
Now, he’s relentlessly pursuing Wendy’s money, going to great lengths to secure it. Even earlier, Kevin had been adamant about receiving payments from The Wendy Williams Bank. Incredibly, he even took legal action, asserting in court documents that he relied entirely on the alimony payments outlined in their marital settlement agreement. He stated, ‘I’ve fallen behind on most of my bills. I currently reside in a community where homeowners’ association fees are due, and I’m behind on those payments.’ However, the judge ruled against Kevin, determining that his request wasn’t urgent and dismissing his application without prejudice. Additionally, the judge denied his request for Wendy to cover his legal fees, directing him to their divorce papers, which clearly stated the conditions regarding Wendy’s contract with her talk show. Despite his efforts, recent reports suggest that Kevin’s attempts to maintain his alimony payments for housing purposes have been unsuccessful. He purportedly reiterated his claims in court, emphasizing that the halt in alimony checks was unjust amidst Wendy’s financial dispute with Wells Fargo over her substantial fortune.
Wells Fargo took action to freeze Wendy’s accounts due to concerns about her mental capacity and suspicions of potential financial exploitation, dementia, or undue influence. Wendy expressed her frustration, highlighting her efforts to inquire about her finances and the lack of response from the bank. She emphasized her demand for fairness, stating her dissatisfaction with Wells Fargo’s handling of her money and her inability to provide support to Kevin due to the frozen accounts. Subsequently, when Kevin failed to convince Wendy to resume alimony payments, he pursued legal action against The Wendy Williams Show’s production company, filing a $10 million lawsuit. Kevin cited his dismissal from the show, claiming it was a result of their impending divorce. His complaint alleged that he played a significant role in the show’s success as its executive producer from 2007 to 2019, leveraging his business acumen to negotiate substantial financial gains for Wendy. He highlighted the show’s dominance in its time slot and emphasized his contribution to its achievements behind the scenes.
He asserted in his lawsuit that negotiations for Wendy’s show commenced back in 2007, leading to a six-week trial period that surpassed all expectations. He claimed credit for iconic segments such as ‘Hot Topics’ and ‘Wendy’s Shoe Cam’. Additionally, Kevin asserted his authority over guest selection, crafted marketing strategies to enhance ratings, cultivated media connections, facilitated engagement with the African-American community, and contributed to security protocols for his then-wife. Adding to the contention, Kevin alleged that producers intended to incorporate elements from Wendy’s show into a new talk show with Sher Shepard, which he argued violated New York law. Essentially, he contended that his termination was solely due to his marital status and impending divorce from Wendy, disregarding his significant contributions to the show’s success. However, the producers disagreed, seeking dismissal of the case, a motion rejected by the court. Kevin’s attorney responded, stating, ‘Mr. Hunter is pleased that the court denied Wendy’s producers’ motion to dismiss and anticipates his day in court. He played a pivotal role in the success of ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ prior to its hiatus, and his termination solely coincided with the end of his marriage to Wendy, devoid of any reflection on his performance merits.’
Kevin received an email from the producers, part of which read, “Dear Kevin, out of respect for our 10-year working relationship, we had hoped to meet you in person and traveled to New York to do so, but unfortunately, you have cancelled today’s meeting and we are left with no choice but to communicate to you in writing that effective immediately, your role as executive producer of ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ is terminated, and your professional relationship with Debmar Mercury is also concluded. In connection with the termination of employment, you are no longer permitted on the studio premises, and all communication regarding your transition, including collection of your belongings from the studio premises, should be handled via your attorney as you have indicated that you are represented by counsel.”
Fortunately for Kevin, the civil court judge observed that his termination letter made no mention of any performance-related issues or decisions regarding his employment as an executive producer. The judge noted in their ruling that the show’s lawyers failed to demonstrate that Kevin’s case fell outside of marital discrimination under New York State human rights law, as it only applied to individuals who are married or unmarried. However, the production’s legal team attempted to argue that the law did not encompass discrimination based on being married to a specific person.
As a result, Kev is headed to court, but that doesn’t mean he’s doing well. Apparently, Kevin isn’t just homeless and out of luck, but also very much single. Rumors suggest that Kevin and Sharina, his ex-wife, have split. The obvious implication? The money’s vanished. Recent reports even suggest that Kevin himself is behind the leaks about his situation, all in an attempt to reconcile with Wendy and regain access to her finances. Wendy’s son, Kev Junior, has spoken out, alleging that those around Wendy are neglecting her health in favor of profiting from her endeavors, a situation he finds deeply troubling. But does Kevin truly aim to reunite with Wendy? And would Wendy even entertain the idea? If Kevin’s legal battles go his way, he might score some cash from ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ producers, though it’s doubtful he’ll use it wisely. For now, he’s adrift and alone. What do you think about Kevin’s legal actions against the show’s producers? Can he win? And could he find himself behind bars with all these lawsuits mounting against him? Share your thoughts below.
