Tia Mowry Shares the Reasons Behind Her Decision to Never Marry Again

In our household, we don’t stick to traditional gender roles. It’s not about women doing one thing and men doing another. We see it as a team effort. This approach was where things started to fall apart between Tia Mowry and her ex-husband, Cory Hardrict. Tia believed they were a team, but Cory wasn’t pulling his weight. But does this messy divorce mean Tia is giving up on love completely?

In case you missed it, back in October 2022, Tia took to Instagram to announce that she and Cory were separating after 14 years of marriage. She shared, “I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways. These decisions are never easy and not without sadness.” Tia filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences, and asked for joint custody of their son and daughter.
Tia shared that the moment she realized she didn’t want to stay married was when she started focusing on her own happiness. She said, “I knew when I really started to focus on my happiness. Women tend to focus on everyone else’s happiness—making sure our children, friends, and family are okay.” She also mentioned that the deaths of her grandmother and her twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley’s niece, Alaina Housley, made her realize she needed to prioritize herself. “There was a moment when I thought, ‘You need to check in with yourself and see what’s really going on with your happiness. Life is short. Let’s start working on you and focus on what truly matters—your peace, joy, and happiness.'”

Tia admitted that choosing herself wasn’t easy. “When you start to work on yourself, love yourself, and understand your value and worth, there’s an awakening. It’s not easy; it’s a hard journey, but in the end, it’s so worth it.”

Looking back, Tia probably should’ve caught on early that Cory was a walking red flag, right from the moment they first met. Picture this: It’s 2000, and they’re both on the set of “Hollywood Horror.” Tia and her twin sister Tamera are already A-listers in the entertainment biz, while Cory is just a newbie trying to make it. And while Tia’s swimming in cash, Cory’s wallet’s as empty as a ghost town.

But despite the glaring differences, Tia still held out hope for Cory after a night out at the Cheesecake Factory. That’s where he chased her down to deliver a bunch of flowers, looking all embarrassed and flustered. “I remember giving her the flowers and secretly wishing I could ditch them,” he later confessed. “I was so sure she’d never want to see me again.”

But guess what? That’s exactly when Cory started inching his way into Tia’s good books. “That’s when my heart melted,” Tia recalls, “and I started thinking, ‘Hey, this guy’s different. He’s amazing, sweet, generous, and kind.'”

At that moment, Tia had no idea that Cory had received an unemployment check from California, only for it to later emerge that he wasn’t actually eligible. This led to the state demanding repayment and legal action against Cory. Whether Cory disclosed this financial hiccup to Tia at the start of their relationship remains a mystery, but many see it as a glaring warning sign about his intentions. And then there’s Cory’s behavior in interviews, which should have set off alarm bells for Tia. In one instance, Tia poured her heart out about how essential Cory was to her, while Cory seemed utterly disinterested.

Another telling moment for Tia should have been when she discussed scheduling intimacy with Cory on a podcast. She defended their structured approach, blaming it on the challenges of parenthood, but it should have raised red flags about their relationship dynamics. And let’s not forget Tia’s revelation about their dwindling alone time, as they allowed their kids to share their marital bed. Cory’s apparent indifference to this arrangement, coupled with his acquiescence to scheduled intimacy, begs the question: Did Cory truly prioritize intimacy with Tia? It seems like Tia bore the brunt of sacrifices to maintain their marriage and family life.

Certainly! She hinted several times that she came to this realization after filing for divorce. One instance was when TikTok user Lee Hammock portrayed a couple discussing bill payments. In the scenario, one partner eagerly embraced the idea of sharing financial responsibilities while the other seemed resistant. Tia showed her approval of the post. Here’s how the conversation went:

“I’m really glad we’re living together; I’m excited to pay our first bill. You know the rent’s due, right?”
“Who actually looks forward to paying bills?”
“And what do you mean by ‘together’?”
“Hey, you live here, so you’re not going to contribute?”
“Wait, what? So, what would you do if I weren’t living here with you?”
“How? What would you do?”
“I would cover the rent and all the bills.”
“Exactly, so why do you need me to pitch in if you can handle it by yourself?”
“It was your idea for us to move in together.”
“You’re not going to help with any bills?”
“You know I’m between jobs; I’ve applied to five places.”
“Then why did you agree to move in with me without…”
“So, are you going to kick me out now? I thought you loved me.”
“Love? Hmm.”

This dialogue subtly reveals a dynamic where one partner feels burdened by financial responsibilities while the other appears reluctant to contribute equally. It possibly mirrors Tia’s own experiences and reflections on her marriage.
Was she subtly confirming what fans suspected all along about Cory’s minimal effort and financial motivations? Anyway, Tia aimed to keep things cordial post-divorce, insisting they’d still be a family. When asked about a possible reconciliation, she stayed vague, saying she was taking it one day at a time. She even included Cory in holiday plans to make him feel part of the family. But despite her efforts, Cory’s actions hinted at ulterior motives. Surprisingly, he contested Tia’s divorce filing, seeking to nullify her spousal support while claiming his own entitlement. He also challenged their prenup’s validity. Despite his initial maneuvers, they reached an agreement wherein Tia wouldn’t pay spousal support. The divorce papers clarified their separate assets, with Tia retaining the house and possessions within, along with all travel and credit card rewards.

It’s clear that Tia was really upset, probably just caught up in the heat of the moment. Both her and Cory have made a deal: they won’t badmouth each other in front of the kids or anywhere close to them. They’ve also agreed not to introduce any new romantic partners to their kids until they’ve been seriously dating for at least six months.

According to what Tia’s friends and family are saying, she’s doing better than ever. They say she’s glowing, looking happier and healthier, which is great news considering everything she’s been through with Cory. As for whether she’ll tie the knot again, well, only time will tell. Do you think Tia deserved someone better than Cory? Are you glad they’re over? Drop your thoughts on how things ended between them in the comments below.
